Atun Eyes are quest items in Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. They are used in eye sockets in Heliopolis to unlock Atun Sun Discs. There is a total of 33 Atun Eyes available but a maximum of 30 can be carried at one time. Only 12 are needed to unlock all Atun Sun Disks.

History[]

Sphinx found several Atun Eyes in various places, such as Great Wall Entrance I, Heliopolis Point, and so on. They were used in eye sockets to create Atun Sun Discs, which would allow Sphinx to run at extremely high speeds for short amounts of time. These disks were useful for completing challenges and getting across the desert quickly, so collecting as many Atun Eyes as possible is greatly encouraged.

Trivia[]

  • There are significantly more eyes than there are sockets to place them. All eye sockets can be filled without worrying about missing one.
  • It was likely intended for there to be 34 Atun Eyes throughout the game, but two eyes are linked and one will become unavailable if the other is collected (Cursed Palace wooden crate and Great Wall Entrance II second pot).
  • Atun Eyes also resemble the laser eyes used in one section of the Outskirts of the Castle of Uruk.
  • In the Spanish version they are called Ojos de Atum, probably because Atún means tuna in that language.
  • An Atun Sun disk is the circle often seen above the head of several Egyptian Deities.
    • Briefly, the Atun sun disk itself was worshipped as Egypt's only god by Pharaoh Akhenaten. This was later overturned by his son Tutankhamen, who restored Egypt's traditional gods.
