The Blade of Osiris is an ability item in Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. It is a powerful blade once wielded by the great god Osiris.

History[]

After Set betrayed Osiris, the blade resided in an Urukite ruin atop a rock pinnacle in the outskirts of Uruk. Horus and Sphinx, having been sent by Imhotep, went on a quest across the outskirts in order to find the blade. As Horus crossed a bridge to obtain the sword, he was shot down by the Castle of Uruk's Eye of Ra and was thought to have died. The blade then falls into Sphinx's possession.

Moves[]

Sphinx prefers to start out his attacks with a backhand swing.

  • standard
  • sword spin
  • jump attack
  • overhead slam: Sphinx somersaults and slams the blade down in a two-handed single, powerful strike from above his head.

Chaining three sword slashes in the same attack causes the third one to multiply its damage by two against any kind of enemy, this also works in boss fights. When it happens, hurt enemies will blink in red for a while.

The lifting effect of the jump attack can be used as an extension of a long first jump by savvy players to reach further distances in absence of the second jump.

A magical illusion taking the shape of the blade.

  • Many fans agree that the blade is the most important item in the game. Being the first, and most helpful weapon in the journey.
  • Rather than being held by the grip, Sphinx holds the blade by the guard. Albeit this was later fixed years after the fact in a patch for the PC version.
  • The European box art shows Sphinx wielding a prototype version of the blade. The official strategy guide also does this.
  • The look of the blade appears to be influenced by Medieval European fantasy designs rather than actual Egyptian weapons.
    • The standard ancient Egyptian sword was actually a khopesh or sickle-sword, which had a hooked blade instead of a straight one. However, straight swords were equally common, becoming more so later on.
